The Cedars-Sinai Medical Center podiatry clerkship is a well-known externship tied to its PMSR/RRA (Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle certification). Key highlights of the clerkship: Students rotate through a broad mix of: podiatric surgery inpatient and outpatient care trauma wound care/limb salvage orthopedic foot & ankle services emergency medicine vascular surgery radiology/pathology infectious disease anesthesia and medicine services. The program works with a large network of attendings (35–37 podiatrists plus orthopedic specialists), giving students exposure to: elective forefoot/rearfoot surgery diabetic foot reconstruction sports medicine pediatric and trauma cases complex limb salvage. Academically, the clerkship includes: weekly lectures journal club grand rounds M&M conferences cadaver labs research opportunities. The culture appears to emphasize motivation and surgical engagement. Older AACPM clerkship materials describe the rotation as a “good mixture of in-patients, clinic hours, attending offices and surgeries” and note that students are expected to be proactive.
