Introduction

The Kaiser San Francisco Bay Area Foot and Ankle Residency Program is a comprehensive three year Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency Program with Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) based at the Northern California Kaiser Permanente hospitals in San Francisco, Oakland, and Walnut Creek. The residency program is designed to train future leaders in the profession by providing quality training in all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery. We are proud to be an integral part of the tradition of training residents at some of the most respected community teaching hospitals in the bay area. The first year of training consists of various internship rotations as well as an introduction to podiatric medicine and surgery. The podiatric surgery residents enjoy a close working relationship with fellow residents in orthopedics, general surgery, vascular surgery, otolaryngology, medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. During the second and third years of training, residents complete four month rotations in foot and ankle surgery with dedicated Attending surgeons at San Francisco, Oakland, and Walnut Creek. The volume and variety of pathology is exceptional with particular emphasis on foot and ankle reconstruction, limb salvage, pediatrics, and complex trauma. Residents take call for all foot and ankle emergencies. We provide comprehensive training in all aspects of foot and ankle surgery, clinic, research, and academics, yet we are most proud of the supportive and mentoring environment among residents and attendings that has been cultivated. We seek to find well -rounded, motivated, and dedicated students to join our residency family.
