Residency Overview
UCI Health - Lakewood's residency program was founded in 1981. The program has enjoyed considerable stability and prosperity for over three decades. Dr. Lawrence Hodor has been the program director since 1986 and retired as the director with Dr. Joseph Yacoub taking over. The facility is a state of the art 172 bed acute care facility located in Lakewood, CA (near Long Beach). Surgical numbers are impressive and far exceed what is required in all categories. The resident doctor is treated with respect and dignity by the hospital and physician staff and have their own office. The atmosphere is conducive to learning with a friendly, constructive, podiatric staff. The program provides excellent practice management opportunities in the private offices of many different physicians. Residents gain significant experience in managing diabetic foot infections, wound care, amputations, hospital consultations and working in a team.
