Introduction

Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego Podiatric Residency Program is designed to provide excellent training in foot and ankle disorders, including forefoot, rearfoot and ankle pathologies. Residents are provided with opportunities to learn from medical and surgical specialists from multiple health care facilities in California. Accredited by the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, the three-year program combines rigorous didactic training and hands-on clinical experience. It prepares podiatric residents to become excellent doctors, and experts in the medical and surgical management of all foot and ankle diseases, conditions, deformities and trauma

Two 3rd year will spend the 3rd year in San Diego, splitting time between Scripps Mercy San Diego, Kaiser San Diego, Scripps Green & Sharp Rees Stealy. Clerkship Overview

Scripps Mercy Kaiser is a 1 month clerkship. An extern is given preference when considering applications for residency, but it is not required. Students actively participate in patient care in 4 locations: Scripps Mercy, Scripps Green, Sharp, and Kaiser (pending affiliate agreements w/ school). Students are also expected to do a 15 minute presentation. We expect you to work hard and we will do our best to provide excellent training.

Residency Overview

We have four 1st, four 2nd, and four 3rd year positions. Two 3rd years will spend the 3rd year in San Diego, splitting time between Scripps Mercy San Diego, Kaiser San Diego, Scripps Green & Sharp Rees Stealy. Two residents will spend their 3rd year at the Kaiser Program in Sacramento (30 podiatrists). We have rotations at Kaiser San Diego (13 podiatrists), Sharp Rees Stealy (8 podiatrists) & Scripps Clinic/Scripps Green Hospital (5 podiatrists), Navy (2 podiatrists) besides Scripps Mercy during the 2nd year. There is a strong emphasis on biomechanics as well as surgery and trauma. There are excellent outside rotations as well. The first 2 years are the same. A separate selection category is set up for the two different 3rd year spots (San Diego & Sacramento)
