Introduction
SSM Health DePaul Hospital - St. Louis sponsors a 36-month (PMSR/RRA) accredited podiatric medicine and surgical residency program. The hospital provides educational experiences for residents in the form of supervised didactic and clinical settings, including semi-weekly clinical conferences, a journal club, and lecture series. Externs will receive exposure to hospital and office/clinic-based podiatric medicine and surgery. The extern will attend weekly lectures, workshops, rounding, participate in the management of inpatients admitted post-operatively and case discussions. Externs may also rotate with the residents during off-service rotations.

Clerkship Overview
Our externship program at SSM Health DePaul Hospital is a one-month, hospital-based program offering students exposure to hospital and office/clinic-based podiatric medicine and surgery. The extern will be expected to attend semi-weekly lectures, workshops, rounding, participate in the management of inpatients admitted post-operatively. The extern also may rotate with the resident in specialties such as internal medicine, emergency medicine, radiology and anesthesiology..

Residency Overview
Our program offers 5 positions per PGY for a total of 36 months. Residents will have opportunity to work with more than 50 podiatric attendings, performing "hands on" surgery at 10 surgery centers, 7 hospitals, city clinic, and army base. Steady inpatient load leads to a well rounded, practical education. Twice weekly didactic sessions, monthly book club, and unlimited amounts of opportunity for research, publishing, and lecturing complete the experience. Our program also offers an international monthly rotation to our PGY-III residents (rotation includes Germany, Spain, Austria, and England).
