Residency Overview
The NM VA Healthcare System is a designated as PMSR with added credential in RRA and has a "sharing agreement" with Kirtland Air Force base which allows our residents to treat young active adults. The VA surgery schedule is also very busy performing both trauma and elective cases were residents are expected to perform procedures from start to finish. All residents share call responsibility. Podiatry covers all lower extremity trauma from our emergency department. The program is well rounded. We have a very busy clinic and there is a separate Nail Clinic ran by Nail Health Techs. The residents spend a month at UNM Carrie Tingley Children's Hospital for a pediatric orthopedic surgery rotation. In addition, the residents rotate with 25+ community DPM's. Currently, we are transitioning away from a consortium model with Kaiser Sacramento. Residents will stay their entire residency in New Mexico.
