Residency Overview
The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center (JBVAMC) is a 220-bed inpatient facility located in the city of Chicago, Illinois. Formerly the Westside (Chicago) VA Medical Center, the facility was then renamed in 2004 for Jesse Brown, former Secretary, Department of Veterans Affairs. JBVAMC is one of four major hospitals that comprise the Illinois Medical District (IMD), the largest medical zoning district in the country and also hosts the Rush University Medical Center, the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences Center.
Our surgical residency program has long standing reputable history and a large successful alumni pool. The base hospital of this program offers a very busy, resident-run clinic with access to a significant amount of complex pathologies. Our faculty encourages an understanding of both conservative and surgical approaches to these pathologies.
