Program Emphasis

The Jesse Brown VA offers a well rounded podiatric clinical and surgical experience. This is a hospital based program with direct inpatient and outpatient management. Residents can expect a high volume resident run clinic. The VA clinic and surgery is supplemented with surgery at multiple affiliate institutions outside of the VA.

Clerkship Overview

The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center (JBVAMC) is a 220-bed inpatient facility located in the city of Chicago, Illinois. JBVAMC is one of four major hospitals that comprise the Illinois Medical District (IMD), the largest medical zoning district in the country and also hosts the Rush University Medical Center, the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences Center. Our Podiatry clerkship program has long standing reputable history and is a part of the Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine’s curriculum. This clerkship rotation offers a very busy, student and resident-run clinic with access to a significant amount of complex pathologies and significant hands-on patient care from day one. Our faculty encourages an understanding of both conservative and surgical approaches to these pathologies. As a student rotating at this program you will receive an excellent experience in managing a busy outpatient clinic. You will also have opportunities to participate in surgery, inpatient rounds, and weekly didactics with the Program Director and Podiatry Attending Staff.

Residency Overview

The Jesse Brown Veterans Affairs Medical Center (JBVAMC) is a 220-bed inpatient facility located in the city of Chicago, Illinois. Formerly the Westside (Chicago) VA Medical Center, the facility was then renamed in 2004 for Jesse Brown, former Secretary, Department of Veterans Affairs. JBVAMC is one of four major hospitals that comprise the Illinois Medical District (IMD), the largest medical zoning district in the country and also hosts the Rush University Medical Center, the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences Center. Our surgical residency program has long standing reputable history and a large successful alumni pool. The base hospital of this program offers a very busy, resident-run clinic with access to a significant amount of complex pathologies. Our faculty encourages an understanding of both conservative and surgical approaches to these pathologies.
