Introduction

Loyola University Medical Center provides academic, clinical and surgical experiences for a 36-month Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery, within the department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. Podiatric residents train side-by-side with a wide variety of residents in other specialty programs in this academic health science center. Three new residents are matched each year, and are expected to complete the 36-month program.

Clerkship Overview

Our program is designed to provide students with an educational experience of the highest caliber and enhance the training of those who are interested in academic and research careers combined with clinical pursuits. The education of our residents consists of: Loyola University Medical Center in its constituents, Hines VA Medical Center, affiliated surgical centers and private offices. Research is a large part of our program and residents complete a publishable quality project to present at a combined research day with the Orthopedic residents in May.

Residency Overview

Loyola University Medical Center is a Level 1 Trauma Center that provides excellence in resident education. The program focus is clinical/surgical experiences for three residents each year, resulting in certification in PMSR/RRA at completion. The program covers all aspects of education, including a dedicated experience in pediatric podiatric surgery and rotations at a multi-specialty hospital, community hospital, Veterans hospital and private offices. Residents have surgical experiences at Loyola, MacNeal, Gottlieb, Oakbrook Surgery Center, Loyola Ambulatory Surgery Center, Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery, affording them the opportunity to work with more than 15 Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
