Residency Overview

The program is located in Northwest Indiana approximately 35 minutes from downtown Chicago. As the only full time residents at Franciscan Health Munster and Dyer Hospitals the residents are able to scrub all cases as a first assist, regardless of specialty. The surgical exposure is complete and extensive, including rearfoot reconstruction, external fixation, basic orthopedic trauma, ankle arthroscopy and replacement, diabetic limb salvage, forefoot deformity surgery, and sports medicine injuries. Podiatry is integrated as part of orthopedics. Podiatry cases and lower extremity orthopedic cases are covered during podiatry surgery rotations. There are two residents selected each year for a total number of six residents. Clinical experience is also emphasized as you workup, diagnose, and treat patients in clinic. Residents spend one on one clinical time with attendings in private practice
