Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our program. The Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Podiatric Medicine and Surgical Residency is a three-year PMSR program with added certification in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery (RRA), training two residents per year for a total of six. Our externship is designed to give visiting students an immersive, hands-on experience that reflects the full scope and high surgical volume of our training environment. During your rotation, you'll work directly alongside our six residents and a broad faculty of attending podiatrists practicing across group, hospital, and private practice settings. You'll see patients and cases at a variety of sites — the hospital, ambulatory surgical centers, resident clinic, private practice offices, and our partnered orthopedic practice — giving you a realistic picture of the different practice models you may pursue after residency. Your responsibilities will include: Call. You'll participate alongside residents during call across our regional hospital coverage, gaining exposure to consults, infection and limb salvage cases, trauma, and inpatient management. Our heavy call schedule provides abundant hands-on experience. Clinic. You'll see patients across a wide range of pathology, including diabetic foot care, wound care, sports medicine, and fracture care, while learning the day-to-day workflow of outpatient podiatric practice and post-op management. Surgical cases. You'll observe and assist in a high volume and diversity of cases spanning forefoot, rearfoot, reconstructive, and ankle procedures, drawing from the techniques of multiple experienced foot and ankle surgeons. Beyond clinical and surgical duties, you'll be an active participant in our academic curriculum. Students attend our weekly didactics — which include case and lecture portions — and contribute to offerings such as journal club, morbidity and mortality rounds, and cadaver labs. You'll be expected to present on assigned topics. These presentations are your opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge base, communication skills, and ability to engage with the residents and attendings. A few expectations for your month: residents look for students who are engaged, hard-working, self-motivated, punctual, and eager to take initiative. The clerkship is a two-way evaluation — your chance to see whether our program is the right fit for you, and our chance to get to know you as a potential future resident. St. Mary's Health Care Services now known as Ascension Saint Vincent Evansville has a PMSR/RRA. This is a highly concentrated surgical residency with very complete medical rotations. There is currently two entry-level positions available. This is a three-year commitment. This is a level two trauma center with a large volume of surgery. Residents are expected to be very active, hard-working, and should be self-motivated.
