Introduction

The University of Louisville School of Medicine’s Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with the added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) is a thirty-six (36) month program, in which the Resident receives training in both basic and advanced types of podiatric medicine and surgical procedures. The Residency provides the podiatric medical college graduate with the didactic instruction and clinical experience necessary to achieve competence in the full scope of advanced podiatric foot and ankle surgery and medicine. To this end, the Resident will participate in medical and surgical rotations designed to broaden and strengthen his/her capabilities as health practitioners and to clarify his/her role in comprehensive health care delivery systems.

Residency Overview

This is a Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with the added credential in Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA) approved by CPME. Our Program is within the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. A vast array of clinical exposures is made available to the residents of the program, which assure diversity and volume of both medical and surgical experiences. The University of Louisville Hospital, which a Level 1 Trauma Center and Teaching Hospital, provides our residents with an abundance of opportunities emphasizing lower extremity foot and ankle trauma. Diabetic and traumatic wound care opportunities are also available at our institution while working as part of the wound care team. Our faculty includes twelve podiatric physicians (both UofL-affiliated and community-based) and twenty allopathic physicians in multiple specialties. Please note: Externship is a mandatory requirement in order to be considered for a residency.
