Participate in the Operating Room- Arrive 30 min before the anticipated start time. Make sure the tourniquet is set up, lights at the foot of the bed, local anesthetic drawn up, gloves are given to the surgical tech, names of all present written on the white board.
Mock Interview- This will be conducted sometime during your time with us to prepare you for the future. The time and date will be determined by the clerkship coordinator.
Journal Club Presentation- Students are required to give a 10 min presentation complete with power point at the monthly journal club. The topic may be student preference or assigned by the coordinator. A copy of your presentation must be submitted and will become part of your file here at Genesys.
Sample Dictation- During your time with us you may be asked to type out a sample dictation of one of the cases you saw in the OR. This is designed to help you think as a resident does.
On-Call Duties- Each student will spend time shadowing the on-call resident, usually one week during the month. This includes ER consults, floor consults and rounding each day (including one weekend).
