Clerkship Overview

A podiatric medical clerkship, also known as an externship, is a critical component of student training for podiatry students, providing immersive, hands-on clinical experience in hospital or private practice settings. These rotations allow students to participate in direct patient care, observe and assist in surgical procedures, and gain exposure to various subspecialties within podiatric medicine and surgery. Clerkships also serve as audition rotations for residency programs, offering students the opportunity to demonstrate clinical competence, professionalism, and teamwork in a real-world setting. Successful performance during these rotations can significantly influence residency placement through the CASPR match process.
