Program Emphasis

A new academic program with passionate attendings having years of experience training students, residents and fellows. The program is well rounded but has emphasis on managing complicated cases, working through revisions, limb preservation techniques including all types of internal and external fixation as well as the use of patient specific implants and joint replacement.

Clerkship Overview

Students observe and participate in basic podiatric procedures, patient care, and case management under supervision. WVU Medicine Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency offers a critical bridge between podiatric medical school and residency where third- and fourth-year students will have hands-on exposure to podiatric medicine and surgery in real-world settings. This 4-week rotation (about 40 hours/week) will give the student a broad view of the podiatric practice with emphasizes on foot and ankle surgery and diverse rotations with our experienced faculty in podiatric surgery.

This is the second year for this program which is being built with involved faculty having years of experience lecturing, writing, teaching and training. This new program has the support of the West Virginia University Medicine system and has recruited attendings to help fulfill the goal of producing graduates who will be competent, compassionate, well-trained, well-rounded leaders in the profession.
