DVA - Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System and Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Inc., Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopaedics
Introduction
The VA Maryland Podiatric Surgery Residency Program offers a comprehensive and diverse clinical and surgical experience across three premier training sites: the Baltimore VA Medical Center, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, and the University of Maryland Medical Center Shock Trauma. Residents and rotating students participate in a high volume of face-to-face patient encounters and are exposed to a full spectrum of podiatric surgery including minimally invasive foot and ankle surgery, sports medicine, trauma, Charcot reconstruction, limb salvage, and pediatric pathology. Our program emphasizes a multidisciplinary team approach, allowing residents to work closely with vascular surgery, orthopedic trauma, plastic surgery, and internal medicine, while managing complex lower extremity conditions. The Baltimore VA serves as the home base, providing continuity of care for a diverse veteran population, while Sinai Hospital and Shock Trauma deliver high-acuity surgical and trauma cases. Rotators can expect active involvement in both outpatient and inpatient care, hands-on surgical training, and participation in academic activities that strengthen critical thinking and surgical decision-making. The program is designed to challenge and prepare residents for successful board qualification and certification, while cultivating the skills, professionalism, and compassion necessary to excel in advanced podiatric practice.Residency Director
