DVA - Orlando VA Medical Center

Introduction

The Orlando VA sponsored Podiatric Residency Program with RRA certification is an all encompassing residency training program. It is structured to prepare graduating residents for board qualification/certification, clinical practice and surgical technique. The residency program is centered around treatment of veterans and their comorbidities. The residency program schedules a 2 month rotation at Nemour's Children's Hospital to provide training of pediatric foot and ankle conditions. Residents are provided opportunities to learn all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery.

Clerkship Overview

The Podiatry Residency Training Program at the Orlando VA Health System offers a comprehensive educational experience in both surgical and non-surgical management of foot and ankle conditions. Open since 2016, this facility is part of the expansive 650-acre Lake Nona Medical City and features 134 inpatient beds, providing a wide range of healthcare services. Our residents receive extensive training in foot and ankle trauma, Charcot reconstruction, deformity correction, and elective forefoot and midfoot surgery. Clerks are expected to prepare for cases, learn actively from residents and attending faculty, and develop their clinical and surgical skills. This program provides a robust learning environment, preparing clerks for successful careers in podiatric medicine and surgery through hands-on experience and mentorship in a leading-edge medical setting.

Residency Overview

The OVAHS Lake Nona Hospital has been open since 2016. The hospital is part of the 650-acre health and life sciences park known as the Lake Nona Medical City. The medical campus has 134-inpatient beds and provides acute care, complex specialty care, advanced diagnostic services, a large multispecialty outpatient clinic, and administrative and support services. The University of Central Florida and Nemours Children's Hospital are also located on the Medical City campus. The resident is scheduled for a two month rotation in the department of Orthopedics at Nemours Hospital. The Orlando VA podiatry residents receive extensive training in surgical and non-surgical treatment of all foot and ankle trauma, Charcot reconstruction, deformity correction and forefoot/midfoot elective surgery.
