Introduction
The Podiatric Residency Program at University Hospital was founded in 1989. The three year residency is an intense program which involves all aspects of podiatric medicine and surgery that attracts the best podiatric students throughout the United States. The University Hospital Podiatric Residency is a Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) approved program. Upon completion residents receive a certificate indicating Podiatric Medicine and Surgery Residency with Reconstructive Rearfoot/ Ankle Surgery (PMSR/RRA). After completion the residents from University Hospital are highly competent in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, trauma and diabetic limb salvage. The residency program exceeds all minimum activity volumes set by CPME. The residents are developed to practice with ethical standards and to become leaders in the podiatric community. Patients come to University Hospital from all over the world with complex lower extremity deformities and complicated conditions. The residents are exposed to a wide variety of pathology that is usually not encountered in a community hospital. Residents are trained in reconstructive foot and ankle procedures that include pathology related to Charcot neuroarthropathy, neurovascular disorders, and congenital and degenerative conditions. University Hospital’s Level 1 Trauma Center provides the residents with extensive training in all aspects of foot and ankle trauma. All in patient and perioperative care is performed by the residents under the guidance of the attending staff of the Podiatry Department at University Hospital.Residency Director

Clerkship Overview
The clerkship rotation at University Hospital is thoughtfully designed to challenge students and support their clinical growth within a high-acuity, academic environment. Students spend the majority of their time at the main hospital working directly with core faculty, gaining hands-on experience in trauma, complex reconstruction, and a wide range of foot and ankle pathology. The four core attendings—highly accessible and committed educators—provide consistent mentorship and a collaborative learning atmosphere throughout the rotation both in the Operating Room and Clinical setting.
In addition to rich clinical exposure, students benefit from a robust academic curriculum that includes weekly didactics and daily radiology rounds. The clerkship is continuously refined based on student feedback to ensure a meaningful, engaging, and educational experience.
Education is a top priority, and the program is dedicated to helping students leave with greater confidence, sharper clinical insight, and a clearer understanding of what it’s like to train in a high-volume academic residency.
