Community Medical Center

Introduction

Community Medical Center is a member of RWJ Barnabas Health system, a 592-bed level 2 trauma center which hosts podiatry residency as well as IM, EM, general surgery and transitional year residents. 3 Residency positions are offered per year. Residents rotate at two hospitals, with potential to rotate at Level I trauma center during PGY3. Residents are exposed to wide variety of case load, hardware, and surgical experiences. Majority of off service rotations are completed during PGY1/2, with opportunity for ample wound care, elective, non elective and trauma cases. Residents have opportunity for elective rotations during their PGY3 year.

Residency Overview

Community Medical Center is an acute care hospital with 592-beds. The hospital offers the patients of Ocean County and the surrounding area with superior medical treatment with an emphasis on healing and promoting patient safety. This hospital cares for over 28,000 inpatients, 127,700 outpatients and 100,000 emergency department patients each year. Level 2 Trauma Center. The objectives of the Community Medical Center Podiatric Residency Program are to provide extensive training through a graduate medical education program in which residents will be trained in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery, trauma surgery, elective foot surgery, and limb salvage. They will complete a diversified well defined core curriculum with opportunity for elective, wound care and office-based rotations. Residents will participate in research and studies and a strong didactic curriculum, there is ample opportunity for research, mentoring, board review and studying.
